When Compromise is Not the Appropriate Operational Standard
Compromise is not always the best policy when fundamental principles are at stake.
A compromise on matters of safety and well-being, including your physical and psychological integrity, is never appropriate and can lead to negative long-term repercussions. If a compromise requires giving up something that is vital to your identity, it is not a viable answer to your problem. Likewise, a compromise that causes widespread resentment and damages to your morale or the unity of your troops, there is no true value there or advantage.
Instead of compromising, consider alternative approaches such as competing to assert your position, collaborating to find a mutually beneficial outcome, or simply agreeing to disagree, and maintain the status quo until the next good opportunity arises to revisit a controversial question.
