Life-Saving Tools for Combating Family Violence and Protecting Survivors
In Canada, nearly 8 in 10 victims of police reported intimate partner violence are women and girls. Indigenous women are also at greater risk of being sexually assaulted by their partners and are more likely to have experienced severe and potentially life-threatening forms of violence used against them.
Programs that integrate animal companionship and trauma-informed support play a powerful role in addressing the multi-layered impacts of this violence. Praxis Forum’s Canine Program is dedicated to combatting violence, by gifting women with a fully trained canine companion for their protection.
The canines enable women, and their children, to experience a higher quality of life, security and peace of mind, recovery from trauma, improved self-esteem and greater control over their lives.
