Femicide disproportionately impacts marginalized populations, including Indigenous, Black, and migrant women. Traditional policing models often fail these communities due to a lack of trust. Instead, culturally specific policing models tailor law enforcement responses to the unique needs of marginalized communities. By integrating cultural liaisons, community-led advisory groups, and victim-centered training, these models aim to overcome language barriers, historical distrust, and unique systemic vulnerabilities.
Initiatives like Quebec's integrated teams, comprising RCMP, Sûreté du Québec, and Indigenous police forces, rotate Indigenous officers into investigative roles to handle sensitive cases directly on native territories. These new policing models integrate traditional restorative justice principles and are heavily informed by culturally specific victim services.
