Information is a major corporate asset and must be treated with infinite care and diligence. Strategic information management aligns an organization’s information resources, data and technology with its long-term goals to achieve a competitive advantage. It involves planning, collecting, storing and utilizing information to support decision-making, improve performance, and respond to daily operational exigencies, emergencies and challenges.


A standardized information management system categorizes data based on sensitivity and value, to determine appropriate security controls, prevent unauthorized access or loss of data.


Top Secret, Secret, Confidential and Protected A, B or C classification levels are typically used by government organizations. The standardized categorization of strategic or operational information allows decision makers and administrators, to examine and manage information according to the potential for injury to individuals, organizations or corporate structures, that would result from a loss of confidentiality, integrity or availability of such information.  


Purpose:

The Strategic Information Management Session aims to support your executive teams in creating a standardized information management and classification system, and ensuring its functional implementation across the broad range of departments, programs and activities under your authority.


Objectives:

  1. Define a strategic information management system for your organization;

  2. Develop a functional classification structure that complies with standard security and information management exigencies;

  3. Implement an information asset management plan and functional classification structure for each department, program or activity sectors;

  4. Develop procedures, standards and tools for training existing and new staff and personnel. 

  5. Communicate critical information and decisions respecting strategic information management to internal and external publics and stakeholders.
